Behind The Photographs
About
Half Past Normal is a personal photography project and visual diary built around the places, details and moments that might otherwise pass unnoticed.
The photographs have been taken over many years across England and Portugal, collecting landscapes, historic places, nature and everyday scenes that caught my attention for one reason or another. Some were planned, but many simply happened because something made me stop and look.
Every photograph has its own story. Sometimes it's about the place itself, sometimes it's about the light, and sometimes it's simply about preserving a quiet moment before it disappears.

What I Notice
I'm drawn to changing light, quiet landscapes and the details that are easy to walk past without a second glance. I enjoy places with a sense of history, but I'm just as interested in ordinary moments that become memorable because of the way they were seen.
Rather than chasing dramatic scenes, I photograph places as I find them. I rarely go looking for the perfect image. More often, the photographs are the result of slowing down, paying attention and noticing something that would otherwise have been forgotten.

How I Photograph
The photographs have been taken using a mixture of iPhones and Panasonic Lumix cameras over many years. The equipment has changed, but the approach hasn't.
I edit every photograph myself using Adobe Lightroom, keeping the adjustments subtle so the finished image still feels true to the moment it was taken. My aim isn't to create something that never existed, but to bring the photograph a little closer to the way I remember seeing it.
Cropping, colour, light and local adjustments are all used carefully to guide the eye without losing the character of the original scene.

Behind the Edit
Many of the photographs include more than the finished image.
Where appropriate, I share the editing process, explain why certain decisions were made and show how small changes can help a photograph better reflect the atmosphere of the original moment. Technical information, camera settings and location details are included where they add useful context rather than simply listing specifications.
Half Past Normal isn't about perfection. It's about taking a second look at places that are often overlooked and recording them honestly, one photograph at a time.
